Career Profile

Dr. Samuel Awolumate is a distinguished academic and researcher in Aquaculture and Fisheries Management. He holds a PhD in Aquaculture and Fisheries Management from the University of Ibadan (2017), and has over two decades of experience in teaching, research, and development in the field. He began his academic career at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) in 2010 and currently serves as a Senior Lecturer and Director of the Directorate for Entrepreneurship and General Studies at NOUN.

Dr. Awolumate’s research focuses on fisheries economics, sustainable aquaculture systems, and rural development. His notable work includes the bioeconomic analysis of artisanal fisheries in Kogi State and the economic viability of aquaculture in Oyo State. He has published several books and journal articles, contributing significantly to the field of fisheries management.

In addition to his academic role, Dr. Awolumate has held various leadership positions, including Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Science at NOUN and a member of key university committees. His commitment to professional development is demonstrated by his participation in international training programs and conferences, where he has presented innovative ideas on using technology in aquaculture, such as IoT-based hydroponics systems.

Dr. Awolumate is also an active member of several professional organizations, including the Fisheries Society of Nigeria (FISON). His work continues to impact the field of sustainable fisheries and aquaculture, with a focus on improving the livelihoods of rural communities through research and practical applications.
